What’s Happening in Murphys this Week September 4 through September 12, 2013

Murphys, CA...It Pays to Shop (and Taste) Local - The Ironstone Heritage Museum, Marisolio Tasting Bar and Creative Cookware each offer discounts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays while, on Wednesdays, Tea an' Tiques offers Calaveras residents & seniors a discount on the purchase of any box or tin of TEA.. Twisted Oak offers complimentary wine tastings on Tuesdays. Restrictions apply but make sure to let them know you're a local when you're out supporting our local businesses...



Save the date for Tanner Vineyard's September 'Wine on the Patio' and join us as we welcome Don and Susan Harper of Orvis Cattle Company. A menu of small plate offerings paired with our beef friendly reds will cap a lovely evening experience here on the patio. Saturday September 21st - more details to follow. Sign ups are being taken at 209-728-8229.

Tuesdays in Murphys - Winemakers Night at Alchemy - every Tuesday night from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Enjoy a featured wine and a great meal. As always, there is live music on the patio from 5:30-8 pm. Call

Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays in Murphys - Local Food Tours - Join Murphys Food and Wine Tours every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 2:30 pm. Each tour is a approximately three and a half hours. You’ll get the inside story about the area’s rough-and-tumble past. Purchase tickets online by visiting Local-Food-Tours.com or by calling 800-407-8918 directly. Private group tours are available by appointment.

Summer Evenings at Hovey Winery - Hovey Tasting Room now offers catered cheese plates Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with three different types of cheese, fruit, crackers, sourdough baguette slices, quince paste and green olives (first come, first served). The tasting room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and (at least) until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through the summer. Please linger longer in the garden with a glass of your favorite Hovey wine!

September 6, 2013 - First Fridays in the Park - Concluding this year’s series will be James Faifua & The Jukes, a five-piece band dedicated to playing progressive urban blues infused with jazz and funk from 5:30 to 8 pm. Newsome Harlow wine, along with soda and water, will be
available to purchase. Alchemy Café & Market will be serving their Thai chicken salad. Bring your blanket or low back chairs and enjoy the music.

September 7, 2013 - Book Launch Party at the Marisolio Tasting Bar - Join us on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm to help celebrate the launching of the owner of Marisolio, MaryLou Schuster's, new cookbook "Olive" Our Recipes. Scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, we will provide demonstration and hands on experience in making some of Thailand's most popular recipes. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and hot chocolate will be served for $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. September 28, 2013 - Concours D’ Elegance - 17th Annual Classic Car Show @ Ironstone Vineyards - 10:00 am-4:00 pm - The Ironstone Concours d’Elegance is an antique and classic car show that takes place each year at the Ironstone Vineyards, just outside Murphys CA. Some 300+ antique and classic cars participate in the Ironstone Concours d’Elegance. This classic car and automobile show also features vintage trailers, motorcycles and wooden boats. Honored vehicle marques vary but include Stutz, Packard, Duesenberg, Pierce-Arrow, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar. Special classes spotlight early Fords, sports cars, exotics, race cars, coachbuilt luxury marques, plus unrestored and original automobiles. Proceeds from the Ironstone Concours d’Elegance benefit Central and Northern California youth in agriculture, notably FFA and 4-H. Additionally, the non-profit Ironstone Foundation has helped fund the California State FFA headquarters in Galt, scholarships in partnership with the California State Fair, and the Calaveras County Fair Scholarship program.
