Firearms Cache Ditched in Arnold May Have Been Stolen or Looted From Evacuated Rim Fire Home. ~By John Hamilton

Sonora, CA....In a story we don't want to report but know it's news. It seems the large cache of weapons ditched in Arnold and White Pines may have been looted or stolen from an evacuated home or homes. Everything the last 10 days or so ends up having a Rim Fire connection. We struck up a conversation with two police officers from out of the area and thanked them for being here and asked if there had been any reports of looting. We expected to hear maybe a few scattered references etc but what they said something different. They said that not only had looting been a problem but that the weapons dumped in Arnold probably came from a home or homes that had been evacuated...

We didn't get a chance to ask any follow up questions as they had to go but we will try to get additional information on this case tomorrow if we can on Labor Day Weekend.

It was interesting that CHP took the lead on this case but now that it appears that it is mufti-county that decision now makes sense.

This is one of those stories that is not only sad to report but another unfortunate instance where some in our community continue to add suffering to those who had been displace or lost homes in the Rim Fire.

We would have liked to ask follow up questions such as what area the looting was but it makes the most sense in a mandatory evacuation area where it would be known the owners would not be back in the area until the evacuation order had been lifted.

Sorry to have to report this but it is news...more to follow tomorrow.
