Heads up Rock Hounds: It’s Pow Wow this Weekend! ~Calaveras Visitor's Bureau Feature

Valley Springs, CA...This year marks the 39th Annual Snyders Valley Springs Pow Wow taking place over Labor Day weekend from August 30 through September 2, 2013. This treasured family event takes place on the Snyder family ranch and brings the world of rocks, gems, minerals and fossils to children, to foster the next generation of rock hounds. Every Pow Wow has been a unique gathering of the friends of founders and hosts, John and Betty Snyder at their working cattle ranch, and hard working volunteers from the supportive Valley Springs community. This year’s event is in honor of Betty Snyder who passed away earlier this year. Her vision and dedication to the event she and John founded so many years ago will be celebrated...

Friday, August 30 kicks off the event with Children’s Day. Pow Wow’s Native American family has put together a wide variety of special games planned throughout the 4-day event, including some very popular dances and races! Last year the Jenny Lind ladies beat the boys in the stick horse races – a unique Pow Wow favorite. Who will win this year? Rugged mountain men from Kit Carson Mountain Men will again be showing survival demonstrations next to their teepee and new this year a talented gentleman will display his carved bears.

Friday night and Saturday night dinners prepared by local members of VFW in San Andreas will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the front registration tent. Sunday morning a gathering in Betty’s Meadow by the wooden cross will take place for a brief service and a few songs. Paul and Noreen Kota from Firefall Jewelers will officiate. Sunday evening the Calaveras Boosters Club FFA group puts on a spaghetti dinner and the Calaveras Twirlers will entertain with some charming square dancing routines.

Monday, September 2 closes the Pow Wow. With lots of fun games scheduled and family fun around you won’t want to miss out… not to mention all the great deals on rocks, gems and minerals from all over the world, unique items not found anywhere else and the best food available! Crowd favorite Indian Fry bread with honey and powdered sugar is good, but locals wait all year for the Indian tacos with a secret green salsa! As always snow cones, baked goods, hamburgers and hot dogs are all part of the Pow Wow fundraising effort for local community programs.

So come on out and enjoy the fun at the 39th Annual Snyders Valley Springs Pow Wow located just down Paloma Road outside of town. FREE parking and FREE admittance and tons of family fun! Feel free to call us at (209) 772-9977 with any questions. Check us out on Facebook or our website at www.valleyspringspowwow.com
