Cowboys who competed in both the Calaveras County Fair and the Amador County Fair were awarded points based on their placement in the horse events, including, penning, sorting and more. The highest scoring cowboy would win a buckle and a saddle. The sponsors of the event were Double S Auction Company and Hoof & Boots Saddlery.
Going into the Amador County Fair, the top cowboys in the competition were Glen Gray and Ace Anderson. However things changed once the cowboys hit the Benny Brown Arena. Calaveras county cowboy Austin Whittle took home the Motherlode Cowboy Award. Austin has been competing in horse events since he was old enough to ride. Austin is the son of Perry and Holly Whittle. His family has raised cattle in Calaveras County since the 1800’s. The 2014 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is May 15-18.
