Fishing Report for Highway 4 Corridor for week of July 16, 2013 ~By Bill Reynolds
Arnold, CA.... Fishing on the Highway 4 corridor has been excellent due to all of the recent trout plants. There will be kids fishing derby at Lake Alpine this upcoming Friday. Trout plants this week include White Pines Lake, Angels Creek, The North Fork of the Stanislaus, and Beaver Creek. Lake Alpine has been planted this past week. Please be careful with your fires as we are in the midst of our FIRE season. Please obtain a fire permit before camping. You can contact our CDF at 209-795-1381 for up to date information regarding camping and fire safety....
White Pines Lake: White Pines Lake located near Arnold has been excellent and will be planted this past week. Remember it has been extremely warm up here and you should be on the water at sunrise. Bait casters should try using Berkley Gulp Eggs, Garlic Power Eggs, Garlic Power Bait, Power Bait, Salmon Peach Power Bait, Grape Nymph Power Bait, Berkley Mice Tails, Berkley Gulp Worms, salmon eggs, and Nightcrawlers with a sliding sinker rig or with a cast-a-bubble rig with 30"-36" leader. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tails, Mepps, Blue Fox spinners, Berkley Splinter Spoons, and Thomas Buoyant. Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, adams, female adams, humpy's, blue wing olive, pale morning dun, caddis flies, ants, and bead head nymphs. There is also a fun fishery at White Pines. The bluegill are abundant and very fun for kids and adults. Come by and see us for the methods we use to catch these small but hard fighting fish.
North Fork of the Stanislaus has been fishing excellent and will be planted this week. You can check the flows for The North Fork of the Stanislaus by going to dreamflows.com. Lure fishermen should try Rapala's, Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tails, Mepps, Blue Fox spinners, Daiwa Lures, Kastmasters, Berkley Splinter Spoons, and Thomas Bouyants. In regards to fishing with Rapala's and Daiwa hard baits, you should come by our store and we will show how to entice the big Brown trout that swim our waters. You can catch a fish of a lifetime. Bait casters should try using salmon eggs, Berkley Gulp Eggs, Garlic Power Eggs, Berkley Mice Tails, Berkley Gulp Woms, Nightcrawlers, and crickets with a split shot rig. Fly fishermen should try wooly buggers, caddis flies, adams, ants, para light cahill, royal wulff, and bead head nymphs. Camping at the Sourgrass area is open to first come, first serve. Please obtain a campfire permit before camping.
Big Trees State Park is open for camping. You need to make a reservation top insure a camping site. You can contact Big Trees State Park at 209 795--3840 for more information regarding the Park.
Beaver Creek: . Beaver Creek has been fishing excellent and due to be planted this week. Lure fishermen should try Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tails, Mepps,and Blue Fox spinners. Bait fishermen should try nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, crickets, Berkley Gulp Eggs, Garlic Power Eggs, and Berkley Gulp Worms. Fly fishermen should try adams, pale morning dun, female para adams, blue wing olive, humpy's, ants, and bead head nymphs.
Spicer Res.: Fly fishermen should try ants, woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, stone flies, caddis, bead head nymphs, mayflies, adams, female adams, blue wing olive, gnats, and PMD. Lure fishermen should try Panther Martin's, Rooster Tails, Vibrax Bullet's, Mepps, and Kastmasters. Bait casters should try Berkley Salmon Peach, Garlic Power Bait, Garlic Power Bait, Gulp Eggs, New Gulp Hollow Worms, Berkley Mice Tails, Gulp Garlic Power Bait, salmon eggs, crickets, and nightcrawlers on a sliding sinker rig or with a cast-a-buble rig. Trollers should try using Apex, Wedding Rings, Glitter Bugs, Needlefish, Cripplure, Humdinger, Berkley Atomic Teazer behind your favoorite flasher or dodger tipped with either a nightcrawler or berkley maggots. Try using scent on your bait to leave a scent trail. It does work. The fish at Spicer have moved deeper due to warm weather we have recently had. If you do not have a down-rigger please stop by and see us and I will show how to reach those deeper fish.
Lake Alpine: The NEW dock is at Lake Alpine and the fishing couldn't be better.. Trollers should try Glitter Bugs, Wedding Rings, Apex, Needlefish, Berkley Atomic Teazers behind your favorite flasher or dodger tipped with either a nightcrawler, Berkley Nightcrawler, or Berkley Maggots. Bait fishermen should try using Berkley Garlic Power Eggs, Berkley Gulp Eggs, Berkley Garlic Gulp, Gulp Garlic Eggs, and Salmon Peach, Grape Nymph Power Bait, Mice Tails, salmon eggs and nightcrawlers, using a sliding sinker rig with a 30" leader. Fly fishermen should try sparrow nymphs, woolly buggers, stone flies, royal wulff, adams, mosquitos and bead head nymphs. Fish slow with a intermediate sinking line for the best results with your wet flies. Lure fishermen should try using Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tails, Kastmasters, Vibrax Bulletts, Thomas Buoyant, and Mepps.
Mosquito Lakes: Mosquito Lakes has bee planted numerous times and fishing is excellent . Bait casters should try Berkley Garlic Power Bait, Gulp Garlic Power Bait, Gulp Eggs, Garlic ,Power Eggs, Salmon Peach, Grape Nymph, Mice Tails, nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, and crickets using a sliding sinker rig with a 30" leader. Lure fishermen should try Panther Martin's, Rooster Tails, Mepps, And the new Vibrax Bullet Fly. Fly fishermen should try ants, woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, adams, caddis, zug bug, bead head nymphs, and stimulators.
Union Reservoir. Union Res. is located next to Utica Res. off the road to Spicer. Bait fishermen should try Berkley Garlic Eggs, Garlic Power Bait, Gulp Eggs, Gulp Garlic Power Bait, Salmon Peach, Grape Nymph, Mice Tails, Gulp Nightcrawlers, night crawlers, crickets, on a sliding sinker rig with a 30" leader or us a cast-a-bubble. Fly fishermen should try ants, adams, mosquitos, BWO, PMD, light cahill, caddis, woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, and bead head nymphs. Lure fishermen should try Panther Martin's, Kastmasters, Mepps, Rooster Tails, and Thomas Bouyants.
For a change you can also try the Hermit Valley area and Highland Lakes. There is some beautiful scenery and great fishing. You can fish for native brook trout in either the North Fork of the Mokelumne or at Highland Lakes. Come by and see us for more details regarding this scenic area.
