Calaveras County, CA...So, you already recycle as much as you can, switch lights off when you leave a room, and turn the water off while you brush your teeth. Good for you! You're doing your little bit to help. But could you be doing more? Absolutely! Being environmentally friendly is more than just recycling your cans or turning lights off. These days, it's a way of life and that isn't going to change any time soon. So, what else could you be doing to green up your home?

Here are a few tips for you to help decrease your environmental footprint...

1. Choose energy-efficient appliances.

2. Ask for green products such as paints, construction adhesives, sealants and carpets with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

3. Reuse where possible: look to Habitat for Humanity Restores for used building materials, tools and supplies.

4. Select building products derived from renewable or recycled resources.

5. Recycle and compost in the home.

6. Seal gaps around the house where air can migrate into or out of the home; think doors and windows.

7. Insulate your hot water heater with a cover or blanket.

8. Switch all household light bulbs to energy-efficient LED lights or lower-wattage bulbs.

9. Replace inefficient taps and showerheads to conserve water.

10. Use a programmable thermostat.
