Helvi McFraland - 1916-2013
Arnold, CA... Arnold resident Helvi McFraland died Monday June 10, 2013 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 97 years old (January 21, 1916 - June 10, 2013). She was born in Embarrass, MN to Hugo and Sandra Wallace. She married Matt Johnson in 1933 . They and their 2 children moved to El Cerrito CA in 1941. Her son Mel passed away in 1951. She worked as a mother and homemaker most of her life but did part time jobs on the side . She and Matt moved to Arnold in 1969 as did her daughter Margie and her family...
Helvi especially enjoyed cooking and baking and was known by friends and family for her great pies. She loved babies, outdoors, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.
She worked at Hazel Fischer Elementary School in White Pines for several years.
Matt died in 1979. 3 years later she married Lloyd McFarland.
She was very active in the community. She was a charter member of Independence Hall Quilters and active in Pinebrook subdivision and served on the board of directors of both.
Helvi was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nellie Palmieri, husband Matt, husband Lloyd, niece Bonnie Warner, and son in law Wade Oswald.
She is survived by her daughter Margie Oswald, Grandson Mark Oswald (Kathleen), Daughter Lynda Stohlman (Howard), Great grandchildren Steven, Will and Jessie Stohlman and Matt and Brooke Oswald and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Her maiden name is Wallace.
