Mind Maters Clinic Offering Fast ForWord in Murphys & Sonora
Murphys, CA...Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic, will be offering Fast ForWord, a computer based learning program designed to help students who are having reading difficulties, in Sonora, starting June 10, and Murphys, beginning June 17. The clinic is a comprehensive treatment center serving individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), and learning disabilities...
“Not being able to read at grade level is one of the most troubling problems facing young people,” states Dr. Ryan Thompson, clinic CEO and Medical Director. “We have found that by using the Fast ForWord program, under the direction of a trained professional, the students with learning disorders benefit greatly.”
In Sonora, the sessions are held in space provided by Susan and Clay Maddox, CPA, at 80 S. Forrest Rd. The Murphys classes will be in the clinic, 150 Big Trees Rd., adjacent to the post office.
Fast ForWord, designed by Scientific Learning Corp., requires a significant commitment on the part of the student and his or her family. Sessions run for 90 minutes, five days a week, for six weeks. In Sonora the classes will be at 2:30 and 4 p.m. starting June 10. The Murphys schedule is 3 and 4:30 p.m. beginning June 17. Reservations for both locations must be made by May 31.
The Fast ForWord program emphasizes the link between spoken and written language to guide students in becoming proficient grade level readers. It works by exercising the brain to process more efficiently, the way physical workouts train the body to be more fit and strong.
Because Mind Matters is a non-profit clinic it is able to offer the program at a reduced price. It also seeks charitable contributions and grants to help defray the cost for families that need assistance. For further information, contact Mind Matters at 728-2184 or mindmattersclinic.org.
