Small Town. Large Community. ~By Tonja Peterson
Everyday each and every one of us is faced with two things that level the playing field of life: Living and Dying.
We get birthed into this world by living and we get taken out by dying. It's what happens in between that truly matters in this thing called Life.
Recently, I was struck by the loss of Zach Orman. He was a young, locally raised boy to man who was living his life to it's fullest and died doing the adventurous things that brought him joy...
My only experiences with Zach occurred when his parents would bring he and his sister into the outdoor shop I once co-owned for many years. I remember the amazement and interest they had in the shinny gear, the cool clothes, and the sports that they could see themselves doing someday.
Isn't that what matters in life?
Being positively inspired to do the possible regardless of outcome.
I believe that every person who knew Zach, knows in their heart that he will continue to soar in the heavens as he did on Earth doing the things that brought him joy.
That is how I want to leave this Earth.
Doing the things that bring me joy.
Yet getting used to the loss of someone we love dearly, fondly know or don't even know is never ever an easy process.
Whether unexpected or expected, young or old, close relations or complete strangers, death leaves us with new holes in our lives that doesn't feel or resemble anything else.
Time does heal our wounded souls, our precious spirits and our lifetime experiences when we give our heart enough space to break wide open and then trust in the process of allowing our heart to grow more abundantly with compassion.
Compassion is the secret ingredient, the healing salve that mends ones' heart, soothes one's soul, and lifts one's spirit.
Practicing compassion is a lifetime process in the best of times and in the worst of times.
I feel blessed that I live in a small town with a large community that exercises compassion on a regular basis and with heartfelt consistency for one another.
That's what matters to me in this thing called Life.
That's what brings me joy regardless of outcome.
With Gratitude,
Tonja Peterson
