Columbia College Presents 44th Commencement on May 3
Columbia College will hold its 44th Commencement on Friday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion. A reception for the graduates, their families, friends and guests will be held immediately after the ceremony in Carkeet Park next to the pavilion...
Among the graduating class, 124 Associate of Arts Degrees will be conferred, 1 Associate of Arts Transfer Degree+, 67 Associate of Science Degrees, 34 Associate of Science (Occupational Education) Degrees, and 93 Certificates of Achievement. Nineteen will graduate with distinction (cumulative grade point averages of 3.75 or better) and 27 with honors (between 3.5 and 3.74 grade point averages).
Those who will receive both A.A. and A.S. or A.S.O.E degrees are Samuel James Baer, Travis Clayton Caires, Robert Matthew Christman, Robert Keith Holland, Ashley Leann Johnson, Shawn M. Jordison, Logan Charles Walter Larrabee, Nicole R. Rager, Zane Thomas Schoettgen, Taylor Daniel Skokan, Tara Marie Sturgis, Melissa Ann Tailes, Jennifer Elise Thomas, and Mathew J. Warmerdam.
In addition, both associate degrees and certificates will be presented to Theodore E. Alton, Meghann Rose Browning, Terrianne Michele Casha-Sorenson, Eric K. Cofer, Raquel Diaz Tovalin, Bonnie Lynn Hanson, Kaitlyn Brianne Hanson, Jeremy Buckley Mondot, Randy Gene Morgan, Nicholas Daniel Payne, Molly Christina Sanderson, Melissa Ann Tailes, Matthew S. Thompson, Mary-Lisabeth Courtnay Villegas, Sarah Angelica Kirsten Wallace, and Jake Hunter Westerlund.
Brandon Moore, President of the Associated Students of Columbia College (ASCC), will deliver the welcome address. Doralyn Foletti, President of the Classified Senate and John Leamy, President of the Academic Senate will convey the college’s welcome. The student graduation address will be delivered by Taylor Skokan and the concluding student farewell will be by Rebekah Fegan.
Dr. Leslie Buckalew, Columbia College Acting President will introduce members of the class of 2013. She will be joined on-stage by Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Trustee Dr. Lynn Martin (area 1).
+ As of the 2012-2013 academic school year, California Community Colleges are now offering associate degrees for transfer to the California State University (CSU). These may include Associate of Arts (AA-T) or Associate of Science (AS-T) degrees. These degrees are designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree. California Community College students who are awarded an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system and given priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their community college major. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses.
Also assisting in the ceremonies will be Mr. Gary Whitfield, Vice President of College and Administrative Services; Dr. Melissa Raby, Dean of Student Services; Mr. Michael Torok, Dean of Instructional Support Services, Arts & Sciences; and, Mr. Chris Vitelli, Dean of Vocational Education and Economic Development. Carolyn Walsh, Columbia College student and musician, will perform the National Anthem and the Columbia College Big Band, under the direction of Dr. Rod Harris, will provide other musical selections during the event.
