Scenic Wonders Drawing Cyclists To Mr. Frog's Wild Ride Saturday, April 20

Murphys, CA...Drawn by the emerald hills and burgeoning foliage of springtime in the Motherlode, bicyclists from throughout Northern California and Nevada are signing up to take part in the sixth annual Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride on Saturday, April 20. The ride begins at Feeney Park in the historic gold rush town of Murphys. Two scenic routes, 50K and 100K, will take riders through the area’s verdant countryside at the height of the wildflower season. The longer ride will also include the beauty of New Melones Lake. Last year 319 cyclists participated...

“The course has been carefully laid out to take advantage of the many back roads and scenic byways that distinguish our area,” states Sandra Ohlson, ride director. “There are enough changes in elevation to challenge seasoned riders without overtaxing less experienced cyclists. The ride ends back at Feeney Park where our wonderful volunteers will have prepared a chicken-in-a-barrel barbeque. Riders can choose to have a massage first or go straight to the chow line. Once they get their meal, they can eat and relax while listening to live music by local artists.”

To take advantage of the early-bird special, $45 for the 50K and $55 for the 100K, participants must register by April 14. Beginning April 15, registration increases $5. Club discounts are available on request for six or more registrations at the same time. The cut-off date for online registration is midnight April 18. Attractive lime-green long-sleeve tee shirts are available for $15. On site registration and check-in at Feeney Park will be available on Friday, April 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. Day of the ride check-in and registration will begin at 7 a.m. and close at 9 a.m.

The park entrance is located on Pennsylvania Gulch Rd., just off Highway 4, behind Michelson Elementary School. The course opens at 7:30 a.m. and all riders must start by 9 a.m.

Registration information is available at www.mrfrogswildride.org. The price includes snacks at various rest stops, SAG support and the after-ride barbecue. A free massage will be available.
Beginning at 6 a.m. on ride day, Eric Olson of Mountain Pedaler in Angels Camp, will provide bicycle maintenance and tech support in the registration area including minor tune-ups and repairs or tire checks.

In addition to providing what has come to be known as one of the most beautiful biking experiences in California, the event is a primary fundraiser for the Feeney Park Foundation. The non-profit organization has the responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the area’s major multi-use recreational facility and community park. This is one of two annual fundraisers that keep the park open for the community’s benefit.

Feeney Park, located along State Highway 4 at the entrance to Murphys, serves tens of thousands of youth and adult athletes from throughout Calaveras County. It is the home field for the Ebbetts Pass Little League and Ebbetts Pass Youth Soccer League. It also provides game and practice fields for Angels Camp/Murphys/Arnold (AMA) football and girls’ softball, and local adult teams playing in the California State Soccer League.

Feeney Park also offers unique opportunities for casual recreation with its walking trails, picnic areas, skate park, disc golf course, and amphitheater.
