 Judie Cain-Papais

Artist Reception of Judie Cain-Papais at Hovey Winery

Murphys, CA... The display and artist reception of Judie Cain-Papais for the month of April...

Sip free wine and meet Murphys artist Judie Cain at artist’s reception
Throughout the month of April, Judie Cain’s award-winning oil paintings will be displayed in Murphys at Hovey Winery’s tasting room. An artist reception, with one complimentary glass of wine and appetizers, will be held to celebrate her art from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13.
“I was thrilled … to be the April featured artist at the fabulous new Hovey Wine Tasting Room,” said Cain, who works out of her studio in Forest Meadows. “It’s certainly an honor to have been selected from among all the considerable talent that is in our area.”
While the Foothills are rich with artistic talent, Cain’s love of painting is evident in her work, which conveys “only the joyful side of life’s experiences.”
“For me, artwork should remind us of hope and happiness, just as the gaiety of children’s laugher can evoke a smile and heart-warming memories,” Cain mused.
She works magic with practiced skill in oil paints, and several of her works are in print, Giclee and on home products. Working from live models, on location, and/or from photo references from her travels, she strives to capture the light, liveliness, and mood of the moment through quick strokes of vibrant colors.
To Cain, painting is something you have in your soul. She sees herself as an “Impressionistic Colorist” painter, but others have told her she has an “Expressionistic” flair.
“It’s whatever attracts me at the time; I express my feelings, so I’m a little of both”, Cain said. “If the light hits a certain way, I think, ‘If I could only capture that.’ It’s humbling trying to capture what Mother Nature has perfected.”
One special piece Cain painted for the artist reception is called “Celebration” and features roses, candy and wine.
Since retiring and becoming a full-time artist, Cain has taught oil painting fundamentals and “Color Demystified” workshops in several locations, including her spacious Cain Art Studio in Forest Meadows, near Murphys, in the Sierra Mountains. She also holds classes at the Town Hall Art Gallery in Copperopolis and her home in Murphys.
“Painting is my passion, and it gives me great pleasure when people react to my subject interpretations,” Cain said. “I enjoy teaching others to find their own voices in their works. That is why I’ve chosen to teach the fundamentals of painting in oils.
“It seemed that a lot of the fundamentals weren’t being taught any longer, so my classes and workshops address those needs,” Cain said.
Emily Thompson, who manages Hovey Winery’s tasting room, has been impressed with Cain’s art for years.
“We are so lucky to have an artist of this caliber participate in our series of local art shows,” she enthused. “Judie is someone whose art I’ve admired for years, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for her April show.”
Cain’s work will be available for purchase in the tasting room. To learn more about her work, visit cainart.com.
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 728-9999 or e-mail info@hoveywine.com.
