Federlein Family Fund Donates to Calaveras Community Foundation

Angels Camp, CA..Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has been the recipient of over $63,000 in the past three years from The Federlein Family Fund at the San Francisco Foundation specifically to benefit area seniors. An additional generous grant of $15,000 received earlier this year has jump started CCF’s 2013 fundraising efforts and will support our ongoing senior initiative....

Chris Federlein states, “I have had the opportunity to be involved in elder care for a number of years and have seen the impact of aging on people’s ability to make sound decisions and to continue to live safely in their own homes. It is especially difficult for seniors who have limited financial resources and no or little family support. I feel fortunate that I am in a position where I can contribute financially to organizations that help seniors not only meet their basic needs, but also enhance their quality of life. Working with the Calaveras Community Foundation to support organizations in Calaveras County that work toward those goals enables me to give back to the community and provide resources that are desperately needed.”

Linda Kangeter, CCF President states that, “In 2013, CCF is focusing on three initiatives: expanding our Career & Technical Training Scholarships, encouraging the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (“STEM”) in our schools and helping our seniors age in place in their own homes safely and with dignity. This recent donation from the Federlein Family Fund has benefited groups that focus on the well being of our senior population.”

CCF has disbursed the Federlein funds to three local organizations: Hospice of Amador and Calaveras was given a $5,000 grant to assist seniors in Calaveras County. The funds will be used, among other things, to provide ambulance transportation, help pay phone bills so seniors can “stay connected”, provide additional medications not covered by Medicare and provide hospice care for uninsured senior patients.

The Calaveras Senior Center received $5,000, which was used to replace the 10 year old freezer which “expired” the day before the Foundation check was issued. The Phoenix Kitchen at the Center is open Monday through Friday and last year served over 8,000 lunches. $5,000 was also disbursed to the Murphys Senior Center to support and expand its services.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization exclusively serving Calaveras County charitable causes, CCF offers donors both the potential benefit of a tax deduction and the knowledge that they have helped a variety of worthy local causes. Most donations are allocated to CCF’s general grant program, but options are available for donors to direct their donation to specific causes or areas (as the Federlein Family Fund has done).
