Donald Castle, Former CHP Calaveras County Resident Deputy 1942 - 2013

Hathaway Pines, CA...Don passed away at home with his family by his side after a long fight to cancer. Don was born to Andrew and Elzora Castle in San Diego, California on March 29, 1942. Elzora, Don and his younger brother Jim Castle, whom both preceded him in death in 1984 and 1985, moved to Stockton in 1949. Growing up in Stockton he enjoyed playing sports and had a passion for fishing. Don graduated from Stagg High School in 1960 and attended Stockton Jr. College where he received an Associate in Arts Degree. In 1964 Don went to work for Pacific Airlines in Bakersfield as an Assistant Manager before beginning his career in law enforcement with the California Highway Patrol in July of 1966....



His first posting was in Baldwin Park, CA where he began riding Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement until September of 1967 when he was able to transfer to the Stockton CHP Department to do the same type of job. Don moved to Hathaway Pines, CA in Calaveras County in 1979 where he served as a CHP Resident Post Officer of the San Andreas Ebbetts Pass Highway 4 Area, until his retirement in 1996 from the California Highway Patrol. Don is survived by his wife of 37 years Sharry Castle, sons Tim Castle and Doug Castle, daughters Kelly Castle, Holly and husband Rick Bowen, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and many friends. Don did not wish to have any services held in his memory.
