MyValleySprings Planning & Governmental Update

Valley Springs, CA....The latest activities and updates from the MyValleySprings.com crew are enclosed...

Planning News from MyValleySprings.com
January 28, 2013

Supervisors busy, General Plan review needed, pay raise controversy, LTF music concert, eagle increase, more...

  • Special Events. A Public Hearing on a draft Special Events ordinance will likely be held at the Board of Supervisors on Feb. 12, 2013. The date is tentative. Contact Darcy Goulart dgoulart@co.calaveras.ca.us at the Planning Dept. to be notified of the exact date and put on the distribution list, or call (209) 754-6394 (check the Board Meetings page the Thursday before the meeting).

  • General Plan Update. Reminder--the Planning Dept. is accepting your comments on the preliminary draft Existing Settings Section of the EIR. This section contains background information on Calaveras County, and establishes baseline conditions for the rest of the GPU document. Is this information accurate, up-to-date, and complete?? Are existing conditions quantified and mapped? If not, the EIR may be weakened. This is your chance to weigh in and help planners “plug holes.” To review these initial chapters, visit the county’s General Plan Update webpage, the main county library, or contact the Planning Dept. at 754-6394.

  • Pay Raise & Interviews. Controversy and conflicting accounts have emerged about the 2012 pay raise for the County’s Public Works Director. Three “Outgoing Supervisor” interviews were recorded for PATV broadcast; videos are posted online on the CAP website (last one coming Friday). Interesting commentary on the pay raise controversy and interview statements is available on our Current News page and on the Free Tri-Tip Dinner website.

  • Love The Forest! The 11th Annual Love The Forest Valentine Concert will be held Sat. Feburary 16 at 7 p.m. in Murphys at the Black Bart Playhouse. Performing will be Cantamos and Tour Guides Band in this annual live music benefit concert for Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch. Cost: $15 (Seniors and Students $12) in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets available:in Angels Camp: Aeolian Harp; in Arnold: SNAC, The Bistro & Highland Books; in Murphys: Sustenance Books, SNAC & Murphys Music Company

  • Planning Commission. On Jan. 10 retired attorney Kelly Wooster was sworn in as new D4 planning commissioner; Michelle Plotnick and Fawn McLaughlin retained their appointments for D3 and D2; and the Donahue TPM in Valley Hills Estates was approved, after Q & A about locked emergency gate and exterior lighting glare. Watch this interesting discussion on the Jan. 10 PC meeting video. On 1/22 Ted Allured was re-appointed commissioner for D1; D5 remains vacant. The next PC meeting will be Feb. 14, 2013. Check the Planning Commission page the Friday before the meeting.

  • Elderberry Beetle. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reopened the public comment period for a proposed rule to remove the valley elderberry longhorn beetle from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. A Peer Review report of the proposed rule is now available. The Service will accept comments on the proposed rule until February 22, 2013. Comments can be submitted online at the Federal eRulemaking Portal at http://www.regulations.gov, (Docket Number FWS-R8-ES-2011-0063).

  • News, News, News! Many new articles are posted for your reading pleasure on our Current News and Reports page. Read about soaring eagle populations; Bear Valley expansion plans; CUSD theater plans nixed; new rules for Lake Tulloch rentals; pay raise controversies; CCWD construction; Trinitas in courts; GPU news; elderberry beetles back, and more--on MVS Current News!
