Two Perish in Avalanche Related Accidents

Truckee, CA...Be extremely careful when skiing in the Sierras at this time. The Sierra Avalanche center has issued a warning and the latest storms have turned fatal twice already. A 49 year old Hirschdale man lost his live in an accident at Donner Ski Ranch yesterday and an 28 year ski patrol veteran was injured and later lost his life at Renown due to injuries sustained in an avalanche caused during avalanche control work.

Bill Foster, 53 was the Ski Patroller at Alpine Meadows and Steven Mark Anderson 49 was the snow boarder lost at Donner Ski Ranch.

From all of us at ThePineTree.net our thoughts and prayers are with their friends and families at this time.

Accidents?

Ignoring the highest avalanche warnings and going into dangerous terrain is not an accident,it is being foolish. The ski areas bear some responsibilities for not maintaining avalanche control, and allowing people to access terrain they should not be in.In the case of the ski patrol who died, they are trained, and know the risks ,it is sad people die when ignoring Avalanche warnings.

The Sierras have been taking many lives so far early in the Winter season from hunters,to vehicle thrill seekers, to knowledgeable ski area personnel.people need to err on the side of caution...or not ,and bear the consequences.
