County’s Stone Soup Event A Great Success!

San Andreas, CA....For many years, the employees of the County of Calaveras have gotten together to compete in the Stone Soup Event and this year was no exception. The event is a competition between departments. There were trophies for best costume, best judge bribe, best office decorations, best pumpkin and the coveted trophy for the Stone Soup food and money drive. The monetary donations and food drive benefits The Resource Connection Food Bank....

This year the county employees raised $1,697.00 and 1,180 pounds of food for Santa’s Express. The judges for the contest were Supervisor Gary Tofanelli, Billie Westernoff from For The Love of Children and James DeHaven from the Calaveras Enterprise. The grand prize Stone Soup winner this year was Behavioral Health. They donated $1450.00 and food to the Food Bank for Santa’s Express. “We are serving many of the same families and I thank all of those who participated this year. It was a great event and is the kick off for Santa’s Express. We plan on serving about 900 families on November 20th for the Thanksgiving event and about 1300 families on December 20th for the Christmas Event,” said Jeannie Hayward, director of The Resource Connection Food Bank. “I can’t thank you all enough and those judges just loved their bribes!”
