Corridor Management Plan Up date Meetings for Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway
Arnold, CA...Public Input Meetings for the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan Update to be held October 16th and 17th, 2012. The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association is hosting two public input meetings focused on planning for the future of this nationally-designated corridor. The meetings will be held on October 16th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Alpine County Administrative Office Building, Board Chambers, 99 Water Street, Markleeville; and on October 17th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Independence Hall Community Center, 1445 Blagen Road, Arnold...
Supported by a federal transportation grant, the Byway Association is in the early stages of updating its Corridor Management Plan. A Corridor Management Plan guides a wide range of activities including marketing, partnership organizing, resource protection, and strategies for sharing the unique culture and history of the byway. The original Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan was written in 2004 and has supported efforts to secure federal funding and local dollars to promote the Byway and develop projects within Calaveras and Alpine Counties.
This is an opportunity to provide valuable input on the Byway’s future growth and priorities. The discussion will focus on the importance of the Byway to the region; ways to make the Byway an even stronger asset; and goals for the future. The meetings will begin with a brief presentation about the history and accomplishments of the Byway. Michelle Plotnik, Executive Director of the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association, emphasizes, “The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway is a world-class destination for travelers with its rich scenic and natural resources, international history, and many recreation opportunities. It’s also a great place to live, work, and play. Since its designation, the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway has successfully obtained funding for several marketing and enhancement projects. Now the Association needs all of its stakeholders to help plan the Byway’s next chapter of growth and effectiveness.”
“We have an amazing asset here. Every community, economic development group, public agency, and non-profit organization within Calaveras and Alpine Counties has a stake in the future of our Byway,” urged Terry Woodrow, Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association board member and Alpine County District 4 Supervisor.
Merita Callaway, Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association board member and Calaveras County District 3 Supervisor explains, “The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway was designated in order to protect the unique qualities of the pass. We want share this special place with others and enhance economic development opportunities within the two counties while preserving the character of the experience and the quality of life for residents. We need everyone’s ideas, energy, and participation as we plan for the future.”
Representatives from the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association; the Calaveras Council of Governments; the David L. Dahlquist Associates team, a national leader in byway planning; and AIM Consulting will be available to answer questions and discuss ideas throughout the evening.
