Get Ready to Go Green at Ironstone Vineyards Coming Up on September 29th & 30th
Murphys, CA ....Sierra Green Days (www.sierragreendays.org), in its third year, offers family fun and an educational experience with a focus on local and sustainable living. The Green Village in the grand space of the amphitheater at Ironstone offers exciting and inspiring information on green design and building, foundations for health and wellness, as well as local providers of organic food, herbs, goods and services for your well being. As always, entrance is free and a donation of a non-perishable food item to the local food bank is requested......
Special highlights of the event include a quality community conference featuring speakers on a wide range of topics related to ”Vibrant Health, Homes and Communities” (see website for the entire list of speakers, topics and schedule); two community celebrations, a Drum Circle lead by Mark Dyken of Clan Dyken on Saturday at 3 pm and A World Spirit Celebration on Sunday at 1:30 pm, bringing together the world’s spiritual traditions into an inter-faith service. We'll also feature special roaming performances, originally written and especially created for this event, by NINE a group of advanced drama students from Bret Harte High School.
The Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 29th at 6 pm is part of a special sequence of events beginning at 4PM with the special showing of Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of our Lives, a newly released documentary being shown all over the state with the latest scientific information on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). The film, written by Jeffrey Smith and produced by the Institute of Responsible Technology, will be followed up by the Guest Speaker at the dinner, Pamm Larry, the initiator of Proposition 37, the Right to Know and GMO Labeling. Pamm will be sharing her story, not just about Prop 37 but also her experience in starting what has become a national movement.
Make your reservations through Ironstone at (209)728-1251 x11 for the dinner, featuring delicious organic food from Sierra Hills Natural Foods in Murphys, fun raffle prizes, including a local mini-vacation package and our Awards highlighting three local businesses in the categories of Energy, Ecology and Economy.
The local GMO Labelling chapter is showing the film, The Future of Food about GMOs as a kick off to the event, Friday evening at 5:30 at the Black Bart Playhouse in Murphys - $5.00.
Along with local musicians (Nicolas Lefler, Cantamos, Tour Guides, Fred Treece and Billie Shields) and healthy organic food, the weekend offers many tangible ways to live in harmony with our environment, while meeting our needs and supporting the local community.
“Sierra Green Days is one of the best and most visionary things to happen in Calaveras County. The people that already know how to lead us into a sustainable future we'd love to live in are all there. You may be one of those people!” says Randy Crutcher of Quantum Leap Coaching in Sante Fe, New Mexico, and one of the original founders of Sierra Green Days in 2010.
Johanna Atman, also among the original visioners of Sierra Green Days and a coordinator of the event since 2010, adds “In its first year, this event allowed the community to see itself and many were surprised and inspired by all they found in their own backyard. There is something for everyone - healthy food, beauty, community and a high-quality, action oriented educational program to immerse yourself in for two full days! While we explore local solutions to local challenges, the ideas and actions are applicable to local areas throughout the region. It is our vision to be a hub for information and models for sustainable living through the region and beyond.”

About Sierra Green Days
Sierra Green Days began in 2010 with the Vision: to bring the community together to educate, learn, experience and be inspired about ways we can live that are truly sustainable and create vibrant communities full of life, creativity and celebration. Our mission is to provide education and inspiration for a more vibrant and secure local economy and quality of life through greater community collaboration in meeting the basic human needs of food, health and shelter and community. Our local solutions can also be a resource for many other communities with the same challenges within our region and beyond. By showcasing the professional services available within our community, we strengthen our community self-reliance and economy while planting seeds for a greener future.
