An Uplifting and Successful "Live On" Event Last Weekend. ~By John Hamilton

Angels Camp, CA...The “Live On” Suicide Prevention and Awarness walk and event on Saturday raised over $2,400 to help raise the profile of this growing problem in Calaveras County. In the last 10 years 90 of our friends and neighbors have taken their own lives. Along the inside of the track there were 90 pairs of shoes representing the 90 lives that were cut short in our communities. Most of those involved in this cause here locally have had their lives touched a suicide of someone close to them. Local author and Copper Gazzette editor Charity Maness gave a brief speech near the start of the event where she talked about the self inflicted death of her mother...

It was a very uplifting event that allowed those affected by the problem to focus on helping to make sure their pain was not in vain but focused on making the community aware of the problem and ways to prevent suicides in the future.

Murphys' Fit Club's Kristina Van Cleave led a Zumba Class to get everyone up and moving.

This is a problem here locally at a greater rate than many of our surrounding areas and the state. So please be aware of your friends relatives and neighbors and get help if you are concerned.
