Leland James Haley 1925 - 2012 WW!! Purple Heart Veteran and Lifelong West Point Resident
West Point, CA...Leland James Haley born February 2, 1925 in Jackson CA to Bernice Brown Haley and James Haley of West Point CA. He lived his entire life in West Point and Wilseyville. Lee passed away on Tuesday September 11, 2012 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA surrounded by his family...
Lee Married Ailene Watson of Wilseyville on March 31, 1951 after returning from WWII where he served in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper earning a purple heart from being shot while descending into battle. He was drafted into war unable to finish high school. In 2004 he graduated from Calaveras High School with his grandson David Landreth.
Lee worked running heavy equipment building roads and logging for Winton Lumber Company and American Forrest Products which is now SPI Land. After retiring in 1987 he spent the rest of his years on his ranch with his cattle and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and family friends whom he was also a grandfather to. Lee's favorite past times were hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and watching football.
Lee is survived by his wife Ailene, daughter Cindy & Rod Landreth, daughter Vicky & Joe Weatherby, grandchildren Jeaniene & Mark Wisdom, Aleisha & Matthew Garst, Rodney & Stacey Landreth, David & Rachel Landreth, Haley Weatherby King, Dustin Weatherby, and sister Jean & Bill Hague. Lee also had 8 great-grandchildren with #9 on the way.
Lee was known by his grandchildren as Hahe to whom he will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Saturday the 22nd at 11am. West Point Community Covenant Church, West Point.
