Black Oak Casino Announces New Hotel General Manager and Management Staff

Tuolumne, CA...The Hotel at Black Oak Casino Resort, the latest project of the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians and TEDA, Inc., has appointed its new hotel management staff. Paul Medawar has been named to the position of Hotel General Manager. Paul brings over 22 years of hospitality experience to the Black Oak team. Prior to joining TEDA, Inc., Paul has held several positions in hotels ranging from 150 to 800 rooms throughout the United States with such companies as InterContinental Hotel Group, Hilton Worldwide, Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino and various other independent hotel firms. Paul’s background is in full service properties spanning from upscale leisure resorts, Native American casinos and mid-scale corporate hotels....




During his career, Paul has been involved in opening and renovating hotels with an emphasis not only on the Rooms operation, as well as on Food & Beverage and Sales & Marketing. Paul achieved his CHA (Certified Hotel Administrator) designation in 2007.

Paul is a native of Southern California and currently resides in Copperopolis with his wife, their daughter and two dogs.


Ron Pascual has recently accepted the position of Director of Hotel Operations for The Hotel at Black Oak Casino.

Previously, Ron was Executive Director at A.M.E. Mt. Zion Church in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Ron’s previous work experience includes, Director of Hotel Operations for Tropicana Entertainment at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel and Casino, Director of Hotel Operations for Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana and Isle of Capri in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as well as various hotel positions within the Harrah’s Corporation in Las Vegas & Reno. Ron has a full background in hotel operations with an emphasis on Food & Beverage as well as Sales & Marketing. Ron has been very involved and instrumental with opening and renovating casino hotels as well as traditional hotels across the United States.

Ron currently resides in Sonora and is a father of two. He enjoys the outdoors and is avid golfer.


The newest member of the Hotel team is Mariza Ponce who has accepted the position of Director of Sales and Catering. Mariza joins the Black Oak Resort team after a successful nine year run at Chukchansi Resort in Coarsegold, California where she worked as an Executive Leader in their Tour and Travel department. Mariza also is on the Board of Sister Cities International, as the Marketing Director, which has been prudent in the international market with group sales and tours. She is responsible for the business exchange of import and export throughout the International regions, developing and publicizing relationships with other Sister Cities Countries to influx the tourism segment within the local community and statewide.

Mariza currently resides in Merced County and is the oldest of 5 siblings. She is a proud mother of one daughter. Mariza is heavily involved in the community and strongly believes in connecting with the community. Mariza loves to travel the world and is a self proclaimed master chef.

The Hotel at Black Oak Casino Resort will be opening in early Spring of 2013 and will feature 148 rooms, pool, Jacuzzi, conference center, workout facility, gift shop, and valet parking.
