SWING GITANE TO CLOSE OUT THIS YEAR’S MURPHYS FIRST FRIDAYS IN THE PARK SERIES

Murphys, CA...Swing Gitane, a band that draws its inspiration from the great swing music of the early to middle 20th century, will close out another successful season of the Murphys Community Club’s First Fridays in the Park when they take to the gazebo stage September 7, starting at 5:30 p.m. The band’s repertoire includes French musette and gypsy styles as well as American, Latin and cowboy jazz standards.
Their infectious rhythms, vocal harmonies and straight-ahead sound are designed to set toes tapping and to put smiles on faces throughout the audience...

Everyone is invited to bring a blanket or folding chair and join friends and neighbors in an evening of good music and camaraderie in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park.
There is no admission charge.

The Murphys Community Club will be selling food, wine, and other beverages beginning at 5 p.m. with the proceeds going to maintain and improve the park. This month’s menu from Alchemy Market & Café will include their famous Thai Chopped Chicken Salad, Gold Nugget Cheese Bread, and a White Chocolate Macadamia cookie. The price is $8 per person.

Wines from Metate Hill Vineyards, along with soda and water, will be available to purchase. A highlight of the event will the drawing of the winning raffle ticket with one lucky person becoming the proud owner of an Ocean Kayak Venus 11 valued at $749. Jill Seale of the Sierra Nevada Adventure Company (SNAC), donors of the kayak, will pull the winning number at 6:15 p.m. MCC has been selling raffle tickets throughout the year with all the proceeds going to maintain and improve the highly used community park.

The Murphys Community Club is celebrating its 44th year of providing services and programs for the greater Murphys area. Its prime responsibility is the management and maintenance of the beautiful Murphys Community Park.

This is the sixth year the club has presented First Fridays in the Park. These summer time events continue to grow in popularity and have fast become a Mother Lode tradition. The seventh season will be presented in 2012 starting in June.

Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information, go to the web site www.visitmurphys.com/community_club.html or call 728-1948.
