Tuolumne County Exhibit Takes Gold at State Fair!
Tuolumne County, CA...For 5 out of 6 years now Tuolumne County was awarded a gold ribbon at the 2012 California State Fair in Sacramento. The “Best Visitor Experience” ribbon was also awarded as a result of the imaginations of Sandy Gordon, Exhibit Coordinator and Marketing Manager for Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with exhibit builder Richard Bay of Sacramento. They followed a Tuolumne ....
Fun House theme that incorporates moving trees, fun house mirrors and a ball toss to win a prize. In addition, a flowing waterfall, doors that state “open if you dare” with historic and cultural displays, an old hand water pump and photo opportunities such as a fisherman holding a fish provides much inter-activity for adults and children alike. Out of 30 counties competing, only Tuolumne County was given this special designation.
The judges’ decision was announced at the annual Awards Ceremony for the County Exhibits at Cal Expo. Accepting the award from the State Fair General Manager and CEO Norbert Batosik on behalf of the judges were General Manager of Black Oak Casino, Ron Patel, Assistant Marketing Manager Susan Spence, Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians Tribal Administrative Assistant Jackie Campidonica, Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Nanci Sikes, Exhibit Coordinator Sandy Gordon and Marketing Consultant Bruce Tepper.
“Big Fun That Moves You” was the theme established by the State Fair Board this year. “Our county has a history of fun that moves you, from stagecoaches and steam trains, skiing and white water rafting, to boats and pack horses”, said Nanci Sikes.
Judging is based on a point system with credit for animation, technology, natural materials, products grown or produced in the region and components of the exhibit that relate specifically to the theme. The exhibit incorporated all of the above in its design and the activities and events it promotes. Also displayed are unique historical artifacts and Native-American cultural pieces.
This exhibit is a partnership between the County of Tuolumne, Black Oak Casino, and the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau.
The fair runs through Sunday – September 29th. There are still a few openings for volunteers to staff the Tuolumne County Exhibit for a 3 to 4 hour morning or an afternoon shift. Volunteers are provided free passes to the Fair and free parking permits. If interested, please call the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau at (209) 533-4420.
