Huffing Suspect Arrested Twice In One Day
Sonora, CA...11 July 2012, at approx. 8:14 am, an Officer from the Sonora Police Department responded to a report of a man down behind PetSmart. Upon the Officers arrival he immediately recognized the subject as Matthew Hardie, 34 of Sonora. Hardie had several cans of compressed air lying around him....
Hardie has been contacted seven other times by the Sonora Police Department for inhaling compressed air, which contains Toluene. This is commonly referred to as “huffing.” Huffing causes an immediately high. However, it is extremely dangerous and kills brain cells.
Hardie was placed under arrest for possession of toluene with the intent of inhaling it and being under the influence of toluene. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked.
At approx. 2:24 pm, the same Officer was dispatched to Wal Mart regarding a male subject hiding between planter boxes inhaling something. As the Officer walked up to the subject, the subject was pulling a can of compressed air away from his mouth. The Officer recognized the subject as Matthew Hardie. Matthew had several cans of compressed air lying around him.
Hardie was placed under arrest a second time for possession of toluene with intent of inhaling it and being under the influence of toluene. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked on the new charge.
