Blues at the Bart Concert Series Benefits Playhouse!
Murphys, CA...The Black Bart Playhouse in Murphys, which is home to Murphys Creek Theatre, is made available for numerous Community events such as church services, music concerts, independent film reviews, and student programs. Its existence is credited to the Black Bart Players, a community theater founded in 1964, who performed melodramas in the original Native Sons Hall in Murphys. ...
The building, once a County Road Department storage facility, is situated on the Creek opposite the charming Murphys Park. The Black Bart Players had a vision, and in 1986 negotiated terms with the County of Calaveras to use the building for community purposes. Thanks to the generosity of local supporters, a quanset hut was transformed into a theater, complete with lobby, stage lights, and raked seating.
Twenty six years later, the Playhouse is in need of repairs, and the Blues at the Bart Concert Series was conceived. “Roof leaks, floor covering, old seats, there is a long to-do list” says Board Member Dixon Collins. “Our community can once again show its support for this local treasure by turning out July 7th for a great afternoon of entertainment.”
The next installment in the Blues at the Bart Concert Series is Saturday, July 7th, when Café R&B perform at 3pm. “A 3pm concert lets the audience out in time to enjoy an evening involving other Murphys holiday weekend activity, like dinner and fireworks!” say blues music enthusiast and Concert Series promoter Charlie Lortz.
