2012 Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump Saturday, May 12th

Angels Camp, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. Fourteen Applicants to Vie for Jr. Miss Calaveras County: The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras county. The contestants are judged on beauty, personality, pleasantness and ticket sales by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced during the Junior Frog jump and she will be presented at the Calaveras County Fair during the Miss Calaveras announcements the next week....

The fourteen contestants are: Jara Clark, Emily Skaar, Emma Hampton, and Hannah McCulloch, students of Avery Middle school, Savannah Rose, McKenzie Steffes, Nicole Renfroe, Haylei Bolton, Hannah Bolton, and Alexis Fowler of Toyon Middle School, and Crystal Houle, Kacee Harding, Diana Westphal and Suzanne Gallaher of Mark Twain School.

Get A Head Start On Frog Jumps
Kids of all ages are welcome to jump their frog at the Jr. frog jump. Frogs will be provided or contestants can bring their own frog. Cost is $1 per jump. This jump is sanctioned by the International Calaveras frog jump association, and the person/frog with the longest jump will be automatically entered in the finals of the Calaveras Frog Jump on May 20 at Frogtown. The first 125 frog jumpers will receive a prize regardless of finish.

There will be additional games and activities compared to previous years for the kids and food and refreshments will be served. Chicken in-a-barrel dinners will be available for pickup during the event. Tickets for the chicken have been on sale throughout the Angels Camp area by AMFD fire personnel for $10 per dinner. A limited number of dinners will be available for purchase at the event. Additionally, there will be a photo booth where attendees can take a picture with their frog and/or dressed up as a firefighter.

Both the Jr. Miss Calaveras contestants and AMFD fire personnel are currently selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the Altaville Melones Fire District firefighters association. Raffle prizes including a 32” flat screen HDTV television, gift certificates from local area merchants, a 2-night stay at the Carson Valley Inn and much more. Tickets are 50 cents each and will also be on sale during the event.

Admission is free to both events.

Proceeds from these events benefit the Altaville Melones Volunteer Firefighters Association.

The Altaville Melones Fire Department is Located on Monte Verde Street in Angels Camp.
