Storybook Stroll: Wake Up! It's Spring. Friday, May 4th, 10 am. Toddlers and their loved ones are invited to read a story under the trees and then wander in the woods. The “stroll” will be dictated by the little one’s interests - be prepared for 100 feet or two miles. Toddlers between one and four will probably have the most fun. From the parking area at the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum in White Pines, follow the Arnold Rim Trail across the dirt road to the trailside kiosk and find us down in the swale. If you follow the trail’s first curve to the right, you’ve gone too far. Hosted by Arnold Rim Trail Steering Committee Chair Nicole Ver and her two-year-old daughter. Please email questions to Nicole at arnoldrimtrail@gmail.com.

Guided Moonlight Hikes, May 5th, June 3rd, 6:15 pm. Evening hike to Cougar Rock led by Arnold Rim Trail Association Steering Committee member Dave Edney. Meet at parking area on Valley View Drive. It’s the northeastern most parking area on Valley View Drive on the ARTA map. Download the map here. No sign up needed, hike proceeds even if cloudy, but rain cancels. Bring layers, flashlight, snack, and water. Hike departs at 6:30 pm, return to vehicles about 9:30 pm. Questions? Contact Dave Edney at 209-795-5931.

Guided Mountain Bicycle Ride, Friday, May 11th, 9 am. Meet at parking area at Lake Mont Pines Clubhouse, 3211 Lakemont Drive, in Arnold. Moderate ride approximately 2 hours. Hosted by Arnold Rim Trail Steering Committee member Jodie. Sign up not needed, just show up at 9 am. Call Jodie with questions at 209-795-0735. Rain cancels.

Guided Trail Hikes, Saturdays, May 26th at 10 am and June 23rd at 9 am. Meet in parking area at the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum in White Pines to learn about the human and natural history along the paved portion of the Arnold Rim Trail. This relatively easy walk will last about 1.5 hours and travel about 2 miles. Wheelchairs and strollers welcome. Bring layers, sunscreen, hat, snack, and water please. Hosted by Nancy Muleady-Mecham. Email questions to arnoldrimtrail@gmail.com

Volunteer Trail Work Day and Volunteer Appreciation BBQ, Saturday, June 2nd at 8:30 a.m. This is the first volunteer trail building day of the year, and it coincides with National Trails Day.

Please meet at the US Forest Service Station in Hathaway Pines at 8:30 a.m. After a brief safety orientation by Jeffery Hilson of the USFS, we will proceed to the portion of the trail that Jeffery has determined needs work. Since it sometimes gets warm as the morning progresses, please bring layers, gloves, hat, sunscreen, and water. If you have a favorite garden tool like loppers, bring those, but we will have tools for everyone. Folks from eight to eighty-eight are invited; children should have adult supervision.

After the morning’s volunteer trail building, we’ll go to the Lake Mont Pines Clubhouse for a BBQ on the beach (approximately noon). You are invited to join the BBQ whether or not you participated in the earlier trail building activity. At the BBQ, the Arnold Rim Trail Association will share last year's successes on the trail and give an overview of what is on tap for the Summer and Fall of 2012. We’ll have burgers, veggi-burgers, hotdogs and salad for a small voluntary donation. Rain cancels, and we’ll post a note on the Arnold Rim Trail Association facebook page if we do cancel.

Arnold Rim Trail map now available! A high quality map is now available for download on the Arnold Rim Trail Association website. We have heard from many friends, and we knew ourselves, that an updated map was needed. Thanks to professional cartographer and Arnold Rim Trail Steering Committee member Kim Grissom for volunteering countless hours in the production of this map. Thanks also to Nancy Summerlin and Paul Watkins for their assistance. We look forward to publishing a hard copy of the map, but we still need to incorporate a few more details before doing so.
