Lions Clubs Digging To Plant One Million Trees This Year

Join Lions from around the world to plant a million trees this year and take an important step toward reversing the trend of deforestation! Trees not only beautify our environment, but also provide a source of livelihood for nearly a quarter of the world’s population. Many communities around the world depend on trees for food, timber, fuel, oils, medicine, and shelter. Trees also help to clean our air and soil, preserve our natural water resources, and provide protection from soil erosion, landslides, flooding, extreme weather, and desertification...

Arnold Lions plant a Redwood tree as part of International President Lion Wing-Kun Tam’s Program to plant over 1,000,000 trees in one year.

Despite their value to humanity, more than 80% of the earth’s original forests have been lost in the last century, and we continue to lose more forests at an alarming rate every year. If the current trend of deforestation continues, we may see millions of species of plants and animals become extinct, which may forever change our ecosystems and negatively impact hundreds of millions of people who depend on them for their livelihoods.

“Lions clubs from around the world have been committed to protecting the environment for several decades and we understand that every small effort makes a big difference. That’s why we are doing our part to reach the goal of planting a million trees,” said Gerry Sachs, Arnold Lions Club President. “In addition to the Club’s tree planting, our Club conducts a variety of projects including Pancake Breakfast fund raisers to support local charitable activities, sight preservation and hearing programs, and our scholarship program.”

Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. For more information or to get involved with the Arnold Lions Club, please visit our web site at www.arnoldlions.org.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with 1.35 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in 206 countries and geographical areas around the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to sight preservation and community service throughout the world.
