Seven Will Vie for the 2012 Miss Calaveras Crown
Frogtown, USA...Seven bright, talented young women will be competing for the title of 2012 Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. The program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship awards for contestants....

The slate of 2012 contestants include Alexis An...derson, daughter of Jack and Rebecca Anderson of Murphys, Christina Bernal, daughter of Anthony and Imelda Bernal of Valley Springs, Brittany Cox, daughter of Tim and Tisha Cox of Mountain Ranch, McKenzie Garcia, daughter of Gerald and Dawn Garcia of Copperopolis, Allyson Guthrie, daughter of Kevin and Robin Guthrie of Valley Springs, and Taylor Mossa, daughter of Manuel and Shellie Mossa of Valley Springs. The seventh contestant is Amanda French from Copperopolis. Her parents are Richard French and Laura Chappel.
In April, the seven contestants will begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule. They will be schooled in interview skills, etiquette, public speaking and talent. The competition comprises of four areas of focus: , personal interview, health and fitness, evening gown and talent. There is a five member judging panel. The judges are selected by the competition’s sponsor, the Angels-Murphys Rotary Club, and reside out of the area. In addition to the top three scholarships, Sonny and Sharon Canepa sponsor five special awards.
The young women, along with the Saddle Queen contestants, will be participating in the Whiskerino Dinner Dance on April 28. The contestants will be hosting and decorating two tables at the Whiskerino that will be auctioned off at the beginning of the event. The Whiskerino is an annual kick-off celebration hosted by the Friends of the Calaveras County Fair. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship Pageant will begin at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17th on the Main Stage at the 2012 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. The Master of Ceremonies is Steve Hayward and the Pageant Director is Mrs. Lacey Neufeld.
