Raining Cats and Dogs in Avery! ~By Patrick Works

Avery, CA...All right...the cats and dogs were stuffed, but they came down in a shower as Avery Middle School students and staff gathered for their spring rally. After a tumultuous start with the "noodle game", and the introduction of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Boy's Basketball lineups for 2011/2012, the real contest began as the three-legged race took over the Hawk's gym...

Selected teams from each grade were bound together, and bound to fall sooner or later. Fall they did as a promising start degenerated into near chaos. Track conditions were not their best with all those cats and dogs lying around, but the 6th grade team used conditions to their advantage, taking an early lead. A last minute rules change brought all three teams to ground, as the traditional three-legged and upright racing posture was ruled illegal for the second half of the contest, and teams bound at the ankle found themselves in a backward crawl. This was no cake-walk...it was a crab walk!

The crowd roared...the crowd roared some more...flashes were popping throughout the bleachers as nobody wanted to miss this dramatic finish!

It was the 7th grade by a whisker!

Spirit point totals for the day's complete rally were not available at press time, but it's certain that all of Avery is proud of these kids. Certainly these kids are proud of their school!

Thursday's rally was in part Avery Middle School's soft launch into Kindness Week here in Calaveras County. Please keep thepinetree.net informed about what you are doing for Kindness Week!

Yes thepinetree.net covers the smaller schools as well. From Mountain Oaks Eagles to Avery Hawks; we try to make sure everyone is covered. If your school is doing something special, please let us know!
