SIGNUPS BEGIN FOR FIFTH ANNUAL MR. FROG’S WILD RIDE

Murphys, CA...Bicyclists from throughout Northern California and Nevada will journey to the historic gold rush town of Murphys to enjoy the spring beauty of Calaveras County and take part in the fifth annual Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride on Saturday, April 21. Two scenic routes, 50K and 100K, will take riders through the area’s verdant countryside at the height of the wildflower season. The longer ride will also include New Melones Lake...

“The course has been carefully laid out to take advantage of the many back roads and scenic byways that distinguish our area,” states Mark Korte, ride director. “There are enough changes in elevation to challenge seasoned riders without overtaxing less experienced cyclists. After the ride, enjoy a wonderful barbeque and music at the park”.

In addition to providing what has come to be known as one of the most beautiful biking experiences in California, the event is a primary fundraiser for the Feeney Park Foundation. The non-profit organization has the responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the area’s major multi-use recreational facility and community park. This is one of two annual fundraisers that keep the park open for the community’s benefit.

Feeney Park, located along State Highway 4 at the entrance to Murphys, serves tens of thousands of youth and adult athletes from throughout Calaveras County. It is the home field for the Ebbetts Pass Little League and Ebbetts Pass Youth Soccer League. It also provides game and practice fields for Angels Camp/Murphys/Arnold (AMA) football and girls’ softball, and local adult teams playing in the California State Soccer League.

In addition, Feeney Park offers unique opportunities for casual recreation with its walking trails, picnic areas, skate park, and amphitheater.

Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride, so named in honor of Mark Twain’s “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” begins and ends at Feeney Park, which is also the site of the post ride barbecue. The course opens at 7:30 a.m. and all riders must start by 9 a.m.

Registration information is available at www.mrfrogswildride.org. Riders may register by sending in a downloaded application or by using the Active or Eventbrite online services. The cost of the 50K is $40. The 100K is $50. Club discounts are available on request for over six enrollees. This price includes snacks at various rest stops, SAG support and the post ride chicken-in-the-barrel barbecue. A free massage will be available. Additional barbecue tickets may be purchased for $12 for adults and $6 for children. Long sleeve event t-shirts are available on the web site for $15. The registration deadline is April 14. After that there will be a five-dollar late charge.

On site registration and check-in will be available on Friday, April 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. Day of the ride check-in and registration will begin at 7 a.m. and close at 9 a.m.

There is a new feature for this year’s ride. Shelley Marenka, USA Cycling Elite Coach will be leading four training rides prior to the event. The training is free to the registered riders for the Mr. Frog’s ride. Participants will traverse portions of the same routes as the Mr. Frog’s ride to become familiar and comfortable with the terrain. Coach Shelley will offer coaching assistance and training tips during these training rides. Training Ride dates are
Saturday, March 3,Saturday, March 10,
Saturday, March 31, and
Saturday, April 7.
Information may be obtained by emailing Coach Shelley at getonyourmark@gmail.com or calling her at (530) 864-7891.
