Calaveras Arts Council Ovations 2012 Series Celebrates Ireland on February 12
Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Arts Council welcomes back foothill favorites Margie Butler, Paul Espinoza, and Kathy Ross Sierra, Golden Bough. They are also pleased to introduce Calaveras County to the McGrath Irish Dancers. Golden Bough and the McGrath Irish Dancers have created a unique performance focused on Irish song and dance. They will be performing at the Bret Hart High School Theater on February 12, beginning at 3pm. Theater doors open at 2:30pm...
Celebrate Ireland is the theme of the performance so there will be stories told, clap-a-longs and sing a-longs. If you know how to step dance, then tap your feet in applause.
Originating in Ireland, The McGrath Irish Dancers have been delighting audiences for more than 50 years. They carry on their Irish dance tradition with precise rhythm, colorful costumes, and fast-footwork. They have won International Championships and have competed several times in The All-Ireland Championships in Ireland where they have taken many awards.
Golden Bough, known as modern minstrels, has created a unique sound that separates them from other Celtic performers. Backing themselves on an array of acoustic instruments including Celtic harp, guitar, octave-mandolin, mandolin, accordion, violin, penny-whistle and bodhran, they blend their voices in pristine three part harmony and feature haunting solo vocals. You will hear Irish Hall songs such as; Danny Boy, When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Too-Ral-Loo-Ral-Loo-Ral and popular traditional Irish Songs; Whiskey in the Jar, The Bard of Armagh.
Adult tickets for Golden Bough and McGrath Irish Dancers are $25 each and youth 17/younger are $10. Tickets are available online at www.calaverasarts.org or by calling 754-1774.
