"We love you Conrad,...Oh Yes We Do!..." ~By Patrick Works
Angels Camp, CA...Bret Harte Theater, January 15, 2012...New York City has Sardi's restaurant...and Angels Camp has Round Table Pizza! After the show at Bret Harte Theater, cast, crew, fans, and everyone gathered over the pepperoni to bask in the glow of a wonderful run. CStars, the Calaveras County Theater Troupe that makes so much for so many of our local youth, gave up a GREAT performance this weekend as "Bye Bye Birdie" was presented at the Bret Harte Theater in Angels Camp...

This reporter was lucky enough to run into lead players of Bye Bye Birdie; Sara Garcia, David DeJesus, and Marita Elliot grabbed a table...and Patrick for thepinetree.net grabbed a chair to talk with them for a minute.
Marita Elliot is a CStars veteran, having been a part of their productions since she was seven years old. Now that she's an experienced performer eight years later, she has a perspective on the stage that many of her fellow performers should covet.
Sara Garcia also has a long history of local performance, though hers is more varied. From the Mirror Project to parts in ensemble performances for the Murphys Creek Theater Company, and now to CStars...Sara has depth and breadth to her history of time on stage. All this was evident at the Bret Harte Theater as she took a star turn in a lead role in Bye Bye Birdie.
Perhaps the greatest surprise of the night was the newcomer to both CStars and the stage, as David DeJesus stole the show in the role of Harry MacAfee; father to Sara's character Kim MacAfee.
This reporter is a father, something of a ham, but could not on his best day hold a candle to the performance by Mr. DeJesus.
I've been upset...I've been outraged...I've jumped out of my chair so I could put my foot down. Nobody played the father role better than David DeJesus.
Watch for this young man in the future. He has skills and a stage presence that will be reckoned with in years to come.
