Copperopolis Matriarch Ella Louise McCarty-Hiatt August 23, 1915 – December 23, 2011
Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis native Ella Louise McCarty-Hiatt died peacefully December 23 in her home surrounded by loved ones. Ella was 96 yrs old. Ella was born in Salt Spring Valley, the daughter of Jackson Dean and Helen (Hunt) McCarty, Granddaughter of Thomas and Agnes (Dean) McCarty, Founder of Copperopolis and sister to 7 siblings that have all preceded her in death. Ella grew up in Salt Spring Valley, attended the Salt Spring Valley School and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1932....
Ella enjoyed her animals, gardening, flower arranging and her family and friends. Ella worked at the San Andreas and Angels Camp Museum into her 80’s. She was a member of the Calaveras and Tuolumne Historical Societies, Calaveras –Tuolumne Cattlewomen, Ladies Auxiliary to California Pioneers for 53 years, and BHUHS Alumni Association, however her greatest joy was the “McCarty Ranch”, where she worked side by side with adored Nephew, Ron McCarty whom preceded her in death. Ella took great comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue in her Great Nieces, Ronda and Stacey and their families. Ella is survived by her Nephew that she raised as a son, Gary Hiatt (Sim) of Portugal, Shawn Hiatt (Janet) and their two children of Hawaii, Patricia (Ron) McCarty of Copperopolis, JT McCarty (Deadra) Midland TX, Patricia “McCarty” Hose (Frank) of Stockton, Robbie “McCarty” Northington (Ben) of Angels Camp, Dick McCarty (Deborah) of Copperopolis, Donald Doe of Stockton, Helen “Doe” Braun (Doug) of Modesto, Barbara “McCarty” Wilson of Angels Camp, Barbara “McCarty” Friend (Ron) of Florida, numerous Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and Great Great Nieces and Nephews, cousins and several close friends. Visitation will be Wednesday December 28, 2011 from 1 till 6 p.m. A service will be held at Angels Memorial Chapel December 29 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice of the Sierra 451 S. Main St. Angels Camp or Ladies Auxiliary to California Pioneers Lynne Sandburg P.O. Box 166 Linden, CA 95236.
