Copperopolis Named to Bing.com’s ‘Fabulous Christmas Trees’ List... Global Search Engine Includes Copperopolis with New York’s Rockefeller Center, Washington’s National Christmas Tree

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis in Calaveras County has been named to Bing.com’s “Fabulous Christmas Trees” list for its 40-foot white fir decorated with more than 1,000 holiday lights. Bing.com, the second-largest global search engine, is honoring the Copperopolis holiday tree along with 14 others such as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City, the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. and the Daley Plaza holiday tree in Chicago. The list also includes trees from London, Rio de Janeiro and Dortmund, Germany.....

Situated one mile west of Historic Copperopolis, the holiday tree is located in the center of Copperopolis Town Square. It was harvested in Arnold near the Calaveras Big Trees State Park on the property of Chris Shultz, a local artist and owner of Clay Day Studio. Anthony Armstrong of Timber Craft in Murphys cut the tree, which was over 50 feet tall before being trimmed to move. Darrin Mills of Distinctive Metals in Angels Camp delivered the white fir.

It was hoisted by crane into the tree vault by Les Stanton, property manager of Copperopolis Town Square, with the assistance of Armstrong and Mills. Linda Stefanick, Vice President for Castle & Cooke Calaveras, Inc., and Stanton spent a week installing the holiday lights and decorations in preparation for the annual “Tree Lighting” Nov. 25.

“The Christmas tree stands in front of our old fashioned gazebo,” says Stefanick. “We invite the community, as well as those visiting the region, to spend a little time visiting Copperopolis to soak up the holiday spirit.”

Copperopolis received its name from producing 72 million pounds of copper to make bullets during the Civil War. The Armory, which housed the Union Troops, still stands today and is used as a community center for many local events.

Copperopolis is nestled in the rolling foothills of the Central Sierra on Highway 4 in Calaveras County, two hours from the Bay Area and 1.5 hours from Sacramento. The area offers visitors a wide variety of amenities and activities including: golf, tennis and dining at acclaimed Saddle Creek Resort with accommodations for guests in luxurious Lodge Bungalows (conveniently located within a few paces of the golf course); boating on Lake Tulloch; eateries, restaurants and artisan shops at Copperopolis Town Square; and scenic guided trail rides on horseback. The Copper Station recently opened for motorists on Highway 4 seeking a place to refresh and refill midway between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe.
