Woman Becomes Violent After Traffic Stop

Angels Camp, CA...On December 3rd, 2011, at approximately 11:15 AM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle near the intersection of SR 49 and Centennial Way....

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Christy Willcox, immediately exited her vehicle and approached the officer and began a profanity-laced verbal assault on the officer. Willcox refused the officer’s request to remain calm and to have a seat in her vehicle, and instead continued toward the officer and continued her verbal assault. At one point Willcox did return to her vehicle and began to try and retrieve something from the passenger side area of the vehicle. Fearing for his safety, the officer attempted to stop Willcox from reaching into the vehicle, and a physical fight ensued.

Willcox punched and kicked the officer during the struggle, and the officer requested assistance with subduing the violent subject. During the course of the vehicle stop and ensuing physical fight, Willcox’s 10-year-old son was present as a passenger in the vehicle. Deputies from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the officer with subduing Willcox and she was taken into custody.

Christy Lynn Willcox, a 48-year-old Angels Camp resident, was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges related to resisting and obstructing and officer, battery on an officer, and child endangerment. Her son was placed in protective custody and released to Calaveras County Child Protective Services.
