Calaveras 4 Teen Center thanks Community Foundation

Angels Camp – November 8, 2011 – The Calaveras 4 Teen Center group presented a framed certificate of appreciation to the Calaveras Community Foundation during its Nov. 3 meeting for the $4,000 grant that was awarded to them. The spirited grassroots volunteer group is busy making plans to create a youth center for the Highway 4 corridor from Arnold to Copperopolis based within walking distance of Bret Harte High School....

The certificate was presented by Calaveras 4 Teen Center board member Rev. Lloyd Schneider who wrote the grant, and it was given with applause to Scott Ratterman, CCF vice-president, administration and Lyn Norfolk, CCF board member. Money from the grant will allow the teen center group to form as a 501(c)3 non-profit, produce promotional materials, form bylaws and articles of incorporation and hold a kick-off event.

“We give our sincere appreciation to the Calaveras Community Foundation for both the grant and for recognizing the inherent need for a teen center for Highway 4 corridor youth,” said Schneider during the presentation.

A number of parents and teens attended the November meeting held at the Calaveras County Office of Education. Committees were formed as follows: research, fundraising, creating a non-profit, outreach, financial, publicity and location. Interested individuals, adults, teens and teachers are encouraged to join a committee. Another general meeting will be set sometime in early December.

“In addition to all of those who attended, we received at least 30 e-mails with people that wanted to help with the effort,” reported Sue Funkey, vice-president. “The combination of receiving the grant and holding this general meeting has really fueled the fire.”

Also during the meeting Emily Copland-Goble from Foothill Printing and Graphics generously offered to print materials at no cost on behalf of owner Jim Klann. “We are so grateful to Foothill Printing for offering their services free of charge,” said Funkey. “This will really help us when we produce promotional materials and posters for our kick-off event.”

At the meeting Tim Smith and son, Danny Eustis-Smith representing the Bret Harte High School Leadership Club, presented a mock-up of the Calaveras 4 Teen Center logo, incorporating a stylized version of the Highway 4 emblem as a background. Eustis-Smith and Bret Harte student Sydney Klann will redesign the logo based on student and public feedback.

Calaveras 4 Teen Center board members include: Jan Hovey, president, Sue Funkey, vice-president, Michele Rugo, secretary, Tim Hildabrand, treasurer, and current members at large are Lloyd Schneider, Tim Smith, and Danny Eustis-Smith. Additional board member positions are available.
