Censorship & Mark Twain – A Symposium

Angels Camp CA....The Angels Camp Museum will present as part of their new lecture series a symposium on Censorship and Mark Twain on Thursday, November 3rd at the Angels Camp Museum Carriage House. The panel will discuss censorship during Mark Twain’s lifetime as well as after his death, including the current new release of Huckleberry Finn with re-written and edited passages. The panel will explore if politically correctness is more important than staying true to a literary classic and how does this type of censorship relate to other forms of censorship. Excerpts from the Ken Burns PBS mini-series Mark Twain will be shown as well. Audience participation will be engaged near the end of the lecture....

WHEN: Thursday, November 3, 2011
LOCATION: The Carriage House at the Angels Camp Museum (753 S. Main Street)
TIME: Reception with refreshments at 6:30. Lecture starts at 7:00 PM.
COST: $10 per person - Museum Members are admitted FREE

The rest of the panel will include Museum Director Craig Hadley, Calaveras County Writer’s Guild President Monika Rose, and writer Scott Anderson, who has experienced censorship of his own works first-hand.
