Friends of the Calaveras County Fair to take over the operations of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds and the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee
Angels Camp, CA....On Wednesday evening, September 21st, the Friends of the Calaveras County Fair voted unanimously to take over operation of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds and the 2012 Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, effective January 1st, 2012. At the September Friends of the Fair Board meeting a unanimous decision was reached by the Directors to take over the operation and management of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, including the annual four day Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. This decision was made state funding for California Fairs.....
The Fairgrounds feels this decision will be a great opportunity to revive the tradition and history of the Fair while jumping into the future. Fairground staff is very excited about this decision, feeling that it is best possible outcome after the State’s decision to remove an excess of $185,000 funding to the Fair.
One of the Directors of Friends of the Fair, Leslie Davis, had this to say at the meeting: “This is… exciting… If you don’t take risks, you don’t have a success. My answer is 'yes, we need to do this.'”
Board President, Firman Brown, is quoted as saying: “The Friends of the Fair is really great at pulling the community together for the benefit of the Fair itself, and the community as a whole. This community to be a part of ensuring it has a chance to succeed and grow.”
Fairground CEO, Ray Malerbi, feels that “The Friends have what it takes to get the support needed for the Fairgrounds to put on a successful Fair and interim services. They have proven that they can start with very little and build something big, something the community can be proud of. I am excited to see what they can do with will accomplish.”
“I have been for this option since the beginning when I met with F&E (Fairs and Expositions), and I feel it is the best direction for the Fair. It is an exciting change and a step in the right direction,” said DAA Board Member, Talibah Al Rafiq.
Fairground Staff, DAA Board Members and Friends of the Fair members are all on board with this decision. They are aware of the upcoming challenges but are prepared to stand together to face them, and of the community, the Fair will become both what it once was, and what it needs to be truly successful.
