The City of Angels Statement on Passing of Mayor Jack Boeding
Angels Camp, CA – September 15, 2011 - It is with great shock and sadness that the City of Angels has learned that Mayor Jack Boeding passed away early last evening at the age of 72. Jack personally placed a 911 call early Tuesday morning and paramedics responded to his home and transported him to Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital in San Andreas where he remained in intensive care until his passing last evening...
Jack was initially elected to the City Council in March of 1974 and served through his term in 1978. Jack was appointed to a vacant seat in February of 2008 which led to his election to the City Council in November of 2008. Jack was selected to serve as Mayor of Angels Camp in January of 2011 by his fellow Council Members.
During his term on the City Council, Jack served on several committees and boards including the Personnel/Finance Committee, Landscape Lighting District Committee, Museum Commission, Calaveras County Public Power Agency and the Calaveras Council of Governments. Jack previously served on the Board of Directors for the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce and remained active in Chamber activities serving on the Executive Committee.
City Administrator Michael McHatten said “Those of us who were lucky enough to know Jack and all of us who work for the City of Angels are devastated by his loss. Jack’s dedication to the citizens of Angels Camp and his passion for democracy will be greatly missed. Jack worked tirelessly to support this community and his void will be difficult to replace. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
The City has lowered the flags in front of City buildings to half staff in honor of Jack Boeding,
