In Loving Memory of Elmer "Buddy" Owens 1928~2011
Elmer “Buddy” Owens passed away quietly in his sleep at UC DAVIS Medical Center, in Sacramento Ca. after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's on Wednesday August 24th, 2011. He was with his Wife Opal “Jodi” Owens. Mr. Owens lived and worked in Calaveras County for over forty years He was born in Marlow Oklahoma on December 3rd 1928. stationed in Saipan. Upon his return, he was employed as a surveyor with the Works Project Administration, in Grand Lake, Colorado. Over the years he worked as a Civil Engineer, Construction Project Manager and was in charge of building Colombia Collage in Colombia Ca, as well as a project Manager for the Forest Meadows development in Murphys, Ca. later in life, he was a small business owner. Owning and operating an Exxon Gas Station in Murphys, Ca and later joining his wife Jodi, at her H&R Block office in Altaville Ca.
Elmer meet his wife in Tracy, Ca and was married in March of 1949. The couple raised their two children in various locations northern California when they settled in Murphys Ca in 1971where he later retired.
He is survived by his wife, Opal “Jodi” Owens, his Brother Jimmy Owens his Son Ricky Owens, three Grandchildren, Scott Dale Owens, Nichole Elizabeth Owens, and Julia Marie Owens and his three Great Grandchildren, Anthony Eugene Owens, Austin Dale Owens and Samantha Leyan Owens.
He will always be remembered for his love of his children, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren and his involvement as a boy scout leader and baseball coach.
In Lieu of other remembrances, the family request donations are made in his name to the “Toys for Tots” program with the US Marines.
Services will be held on August 29th at 10:30 am at the Angels Memorial Chapel with a Grave side service at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys Ca
