Calaveras Jumping Frogs head for the Big Apple~ThePineTree.net Video's To be Featured!

New York City, NY....Calaveras County's celebrated jumping frogs will take center stage in Rockefeller Plaza on August 31 when NBC's Today Show creates country fair fun for viewers across the nation. Bob Lema of Mokelumne Hill will be there to call the action as the show's four hosts try their hands at jumping frogs. The frog segment will be between 8:30 and 9 a.m. in the August 31 broadcast. Assistant Fair Manager Laurie Giannini explains, “Bob has been one of our volunteer Frog Wranglers for years, assisting with announcing both at the Frog Jump and off-site promotions for the event. He makes it fun for everyone with snappy banter about Frog Jump history and frog facts. So, when The Today Show called the Fairgrounds wanting to include us in this Fair-themed production he was the first person we thought of to represent Frogtown in New York City.”.....

“Bob helped coordinate the Tonight Show visit to Frogtown during this year's fair,” she continues. “That resulted in an eight-minute segment which promoted not only the Fair, but many Calaveras County attractions. And we have experienced incredible major media attention in the past couple years, thanks to the efforts of Bob and his wife Sandie, who is media coordinator for our volunteer Frog Jump Committee.”

“The producers of The Today Show see jumping frogs as one of the most unique features presented at any U.S. fair,” Bob Lema notes. “The Today Show segment will also include champion livestock, prize-winning vegetables and other show-stoppers from fairs around the country. But our frogs will be the most unique, for sure.”

“The segment definitely won't be regulation frog jumping,” he adds, “We are bending the rules to fit the show format. All four show hosts will jump frogs simultaneously toward a finish line. That wouldn't fly at Frogtown.”

“Video footage of past Jumping Frog Jubilee action will also be included in the segment. We are working with John Hamilton of www.thepinetree.net to compile a variety of video clips from his files for the Today Show producers.”

“But,” he points out, “we aren't taking frogs from Calaveras ponds -- the NBC Prop Department is rounding them up in New York City.” NBC is also covering all expenses for the Frog Jump appearance.
