Mark Twain St. Joseph's 4th Summer Career Camp a Success

San Andreas, CA...We had the pleasure to attend the graduation ceremony for great 4th Annual Summer Health Career Camp that Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital hosted last week. Thus year's Camp was entirely made up of Calaveras High School students and was held at the hospital campus in San Andreas. The Camps are open to local high school juniors and seniors who have a desire to gain more knowledge about careers in health care. The week-long project included a complete orientation and tour of the facility, four days of “job shadowing” with hospital staff, networking with hospital staff and leadership at special luncheons, vocational orientation to over 70 health care careers, and a special student/parent graduation luncheon on the last class day....

The attendees were very excited about the camp and what they learned. Several attendees expressed interest in becoming doctors or nurses. There were also some who came away with the desire to pursue other areas of medical industry employment including on young man who wants to become a hospital CFO.

“We are very pleased to host this event” said hospital President Feliciano Jiron. “One of our many responsibilities is to help students reach their full potential by helping them develop and identify goals for post-secondary academic paths. We try to encourage the belief that there are great jobs available in our community when they complete a higher level of education.”

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 25-bed critical access general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs.
