Critter and Bug Proof Your Garden

Join Calaveras County Master Gardeners June 25 from 10AM to 2PM at the free Open Garden Day to learn how to critter and bug proof your garden. The Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden is located at 891 Mountain Ranch Rd at the county government center; parking is free. In addition, a plant sale will be held from 10AM to 12 noon, featuring natives and unusual varieties of succulents and cacti and rock garden plants. ....

The purpose of the Demonstration Garden is to educate county gardeners using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, “how to” seminars on specific topics, as well as distribution of material. Bring questions on any home garden topic for the many Master Gardeners on hand.

Tour the Vegetable Beds where seasonal vegetable and unusual crops for the home garden are planted annually and rotated in fifteen raised cedar beds. Native soils are blended with compost including a one quarter inch hardware cloth on the bottom to keep out gophers. Examples show variable growing conditions. We donate our crops to the Calaveras County Food Bank and the Senior Center.

Master Gardeners can also answer your questions if you call the County help-line at 754-2880. Callers may leave a question or request for information about a gardening problem on the recorder and a Master Gardener will return your call after they have researched the information. Additional resources are available by accessing the Cooperative Extension page: http://cecalaveras.ucdavis.edu.

If your desire includes a more formal study of gardening techniques become a Master Gardener! You can obtain an application and more information on this fascinating course for the 2012 season by calling 209 754 6473.

Upcoming Open Garden Day: July 23 10-Noon Beat the Heat in Your Garden –No plant sale
