2011 Calaveras County Fair Amateur Wine Judging Results

Frogtown,USA.....Each year wine growers and makers enter their “spirit”ual creations into the Calaveras County Fair. The wine must be produced from grapes grown or made in Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Sierra, Tuolumne or Yuba counties. A large group of judges sample all of the entries and judge the amateur wines based on appearance, aroma, taste, etc. A Danish system of judging is used, meaning the wines are judged against a standard rather than against each other. Private blind tasting is used, and gold, silver and bronze medallions are offered per class. A Best of Show is chosen for an amateur white wine and a red wine. Amateur wine labels are also entered and judged based on appearance, creativeness and overall quality. Here are the 2011 Amateur Wine Results:....
