Easter Services Scheduled at St. Matthew's in San Andreas
San Andreas, CA....St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in San Andreas has scheduled multiple spiritual opportunities leading up to Easter Sunday on April 24th. On Palm Sunday, April 17th, services begin at 10:00 o'clock a.m. with the blessing and distribution of the palms followed by the traditional procession leading into the church. On Maundy Thursday, April 21st at 6:00 o'clock p.m., a Solemn Mass of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated. On ....
Good Friday, April 22nd, two services will be held, the Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday will be at noon, and at 5:00 o'clock p.m. confessions will be heard, followed at 6:00 o'clock p.m. by the Way of the Cross. At 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Great Vigil of Easter, Holy Baptism and the First Mass of Easter will take place. Easter Sunday celebrations begin at 10:00 o'clock a.m. with the newly seated Rt. Reverend Chester L.Talton officiating, assisted by Fr. John Shumaker, Rector of St. Matthew's.
Bishop Talton has only recently been seated as the provisional bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin. Born in Arkansas, Talton became an ordained priest in February, 1971, in the San Francisco-based Diocese of California. He recently has held positions in the Diocese of Los Angeles, and prior to that he was Rector at St. Philip's Church in New York City (Harlem) and Mission Officer at Trinity Church Wall Street. Talton studied at California State University, Hayward, California where he earned his B.S.in 1965, and Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, California, where he earned his Master of Divinity and ultimately his Doctorate of Divinity degree.
All are welcome to attend any or all of these services, and the Easter Sunday celebration will be followed by a reception to honor Bishop and Mrs. Talton who are making their first visit to San Andreas.
