The Business Alliance of Tuolumne County Building Tuolumne County… One Business at a Time
Sonora, CA.... Business Alliance Advisory Board Chair Larry Cope, better known as the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority’s (TCEDA) Director, announced today that this umbrella organization has made a significant impact over the past year providing free counseling and business workshops to small businesses.....
“Within the first year of its existence, the Business Alliance of Tuolumne County has served 406 small business owners, entrepreneurs, and startups through it free business consultants and over 120 more have attended our business workshops,” stated Cope.
The 2011 Business Training Workshops schedule, along with many other county-wide classes, is posted on the Business Alliance’s website at www.thebusinessalliance.net. Topics range from Customer Service, SCORE’s Checklist & Planning for Going into Business, building a free website, email marketing, business math, writing a marketing plan, ServSafe Certification, growing your business through social media, and a 12-week series for existing businesses called NxLevel. Most classes range from $20.00 to $30.00. Class registration is handled by Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce, one of the Alliance’s four partner agencies. The other two partner agencies, SCORE Chapter 596 and Alliance SBDC, contribute free business counselors, instructors and funding for marketing.
Class instructors are former business executives or top in their field. Bill McIntire, former CEO of MRL Industries (now Sandvik) teaches the SCORE class; Small Business Center Director Kurtis Clark from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Modesto teaches Customer Service and Customer Relations, as well as the NxLevel series offered around the state
and in some regional colleges; and renowned chef and restaurant consultant Tom Bruce taught the 2-day restaurant series last year and ServSafe Certification classes. Two Business Alliance counselors, Lorinda Forrest and Lee Ann Fox, will lend their business acumen and teaching experience as instructors for social media, math, and marketing classes.
Outreach to the greater Groveland area businesses is next on the radar for this organization. Yosemite Chamber President James Nagle is enthusiastic about this possibility and will poll his business members at the April 28 mixer to be held at Rabobank to see what types of classes to offer. Business Alliance counselor, Lorinda Forrest will be the guest speaker at the mixer to share information on available services and to answer questions.
