Adventist Health Opens New Clinic in Angels Camp ~By Patrick Works
Angels Camp, CA...Yesterday the Sonora Regional Medical Center (SRMC), an Adventist Health organization, held it's grand opening of their new prompt care clinic at the intersection of Highways 4 and 49. Currently operating 20 satellite facilities to their hospital in Sonora, this new facility in Angels Camp will be the third of those satellite facilities to operate as a prompt care clinic...

What this means for our community is that outpatient urgent care services will be available 7 days a week with no appointment necessary. With two emergency bays, onsite blood lab "stick stations" and limited onsite lab capabilities, along with complete digital x-ray facilities in the building, this clinic makes possible nearly everything short of trauma care without leaving Angels Camp.
Every day there will be at least one M.D. on site, coming from a staff of three attached directly to the Angels Camp clinic, and drawing from a total pool of 17 doctors available to serve along with them. Current further staffing plans include 8 full time positions and will likely increase as this facility opens it's doors and begins taking patients.
ThePinetree.net spoke with Jeff Eller, president of SRMC and asked why Adventist Health Care decided to make this investment here in Angels Camp.
"We saw a need first of all..." he responded, "and really looked forward to establishing a larger presence in this community. Expanding on our existing Home Health Care clinic already here, along with the clinic in Arnold, just seemed to make sense for everyone."
We also spoke with Jerry Kurtz, director of Diagnostic Imaging, to get a little feel for how this facility equipped. Mr. Kurtz described the diagnostic workflow and capabilities as an example:
He stated "Radiology services at this facility are directly connected in real time to support technicians and diagnostic staff at SRMC, and further along to specialists at facilities from the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco, and as far away as Boston General. Since radiology here is digital, as fast as our two T1 lines can move the data it can be in the hands of whatever level of diagnostic expertise is called for in a given situation, offering immediate feedback to the doctors here at this clinic. Not only does this mean that the best and most experienced physicians and technicians in the country can operate in support of our doctors and staff here, but by allowing electronic delegation of some technical and diagnostic work, doctors here can spend their time directly with patients. We prioritize these procedures with consideration of the urgency of any specific patient's condition, as well as the diagnostic support and technical considerations that arise for each individual patient."
Supervisor Tom Tryon, Mayor Jack Boeding, as well as Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Diane Gray all spoke briefly to welcome SRMC to Angels Camp. Job creation was a recurring theme in their comments, as well as the service to the community. Mayor Boeding expressed his hope that "You all live long and prosper!"
After a ribbon cutting, presentation of an award from the Sate Assembly, and the usual photo opportunities, local dignitaries, residents, business owners, and staff of SRMC joined for a wonderful buffet and live music (this may have been the nicest presentation of any business grand opening in some time!) everyone was welcomed to tour the new facility and learn about what it can do.
