Hazel Fischer Wishing Tree...Please Reach Out if You are Able!

Arnold, CA....In these difficult times, everyone is hit with budget cuts and decisions must be made on where the money is spent. Our school system is no different. Our children’s basic needs are met, but what we call the “Enrichment Program” has taken a hit. Every child needs to know the basics. But every child deserves that little extra to make their education complete: music, art and other activities that also enrich their lives. Hazel Fischer Elementary School has created the Wishing Tree. As you enter the school, you will see the tree with their hopes and dreams hanging from the Tree. You can also access the .....

Wishing Tree online: go to www.vusd.wikispaces.net, choose “Hazel Fischer,” then “Mr. Loring” and click on the “Wishing Tree” link. From Kindergarten to 5th grade, the teachers are asking for items that will help them teach, fulfill, and enrich the lives of their students - things that we took for granted when we went to school. Can you help?? If you answer yes, below are some of the items you will see hanging from the tree.

Technology: $15 iTunes gift cards for classroom iPad application purchases (any quantity); office supply store gift cards for ink purchases (any quantity)

Library: New bean bag chair stuffing (pellets for 3-4 chairs)
New US state books series (1 book for each state, specific publisher)

Music classes: Clarinet Reeds (10-20), Cajon Drum Box, Bongos, Claves, Shakers and Rattles, Xylophone, Metallophone, Drums of any kind

Mr. Loring’s (Principal) Student Programs: Prizes for incentive programs: New Sports Equipment, Games, Books, Puzzles, Toys, Gift Certificates, etc. (any quantity);
Volunteers to offer a fun 1 ½ hrs. activity for students on May 16, 17, or 18 (Contact Hazel Fischer School if you are interested, 795-8030.)

Below are class specific requests:

Kindergarten: Black Sharpie markers for Art Cart (20), Repair our K book rack with wooden dowels. (Anyone a handyman? We will find someone to purchase the dowels)

First Grade: Black Sharpie markers (40); watercolor paint sets (10); pastel chalk sets (10); large glue sticks (20); red rubber playground balls (4)

Second Grade: Small handheld dry erase white boards, 9”x 20” (20); dry-erase pens (20)

Third Grade: binder paper packs (any quantity); large rubber playground balls (4); pre-sharpened pencils with erasers; used Accelerated Reader books for classroom library (any quantity)

Fourth Grade: California history artifacts/realia (any quantity); California missions kits;

Fifth Grade: Binder paper, Colored felt pens (15 sets), Red Rubber playground balls, 8 inches (1 – 2)

Resource Center: Art supplies (clay, pastel chalks, etc.), clipboards (10), Binders 1 ½ inch (25), Laser pointers (3), Supply cart.

The numbers in ( ) that you see following the items are what they need, not what we are asking each individual to purchase. One of the requests that have already been filled was Kleenex. Beth Schultz, Mt. Toy & Novelty, and help from Big Trees Market purchased a case of tissues.

The wonderful thing about all of these items: none are perishable. The instruments can be used for years. If we get too much of one thing, we can store it for next year!! Nothing will go to waste. Please help our children have a wonderful experience in our school. Let’s make it not only a learning experience but also a rewarding experience.
Drop off can be done in two places. You can drop the item off at the school, located on Blagen Rd. just before White Pines Lake. Or you can drop it off at Coldwell Banker/Action Realty in the Meadowmont Shopping Center. And a special thank you to Coldwell Banker/Action Realty for allowing us to use their office. Any questions? Contact Judy at 795-3466.

Don’t live in the Arnold area and would like to help a school in your district? Contact your local school and see if they may be interested in starting their own Wishing Tree.
